Team USA had a fine showing at the Kieler Woche (Kiel Week) in Kiel, Germany June 22-30. Out of 159 boats in the I-420 fleet, USA had 3 boats in the top 10 and 5 in the top 15, as well as the top finishing women’s boat in the race. Moreover, 9 out of the USA’s 10 boats were sailed by western Long Island Sound sailors, including the top 5 boats and the #1 women’s boat.
Below are the results of the top 5 US boats, showing their clubs:
- 6th - Wade Waddell (Lauderdale YC) / Henry Fernberger (Larchmont YC)*
- 8th - Reinier Eenkema van Dijk (American & Larchmont YCs) / Spencer McDonough (Indian Harbor YC)*
- 9th - Russell Clarida (Pequot YC) / Finn Mundinger (American YC)
- 11th - Jack Parkin (Riverside YC) / Florian Eenkema van Dijk (Noroton YC)
- 13th - Megan Grapengeter-Rudnick (Noroton YC) / Haley Fox (Lauderdale YC) (#1 women's team)*

This performance is excellent for team USA compared to last year, when only one boat came in the top ten and only two were in the top 20. Coaches were LISOT head coach Steve Keen and US Sailing Team member Jordon Factor (who is doing a 470 OLympic campaign with Matt Wefer, Sea Cliff YC).
